making it look a bit like a well used painters palette

which led me to learn that images of babies spilling ink seem to be a bit of a thing in the early years of the 20th century

1858 Graphite Form and Shading Studies, Sold Individually antique trunk in figuring out the perfectSOLD: A + D These formal drawings are dated 1858 (I can't quite read the signature), and seem to me just the right things to stare at what one is in the need of a bit of serenity! Finely executed in graphite on substantial weight drawing paper, all about form and shade achieved through density of line. There's a fifth (labelled E) done by the same person but more about ornament; included in photos. All lovely. A D drawings: paper is 10 7 8" tall.
